SAN DIEGO – June 22, 2006 – ESET, a global provider of security software for enterprises and consumers, today announced that its NOD32 Antivirus software is the first desktop security product to be certified for both preventing and cleaning spyware by Checkmark.
“ESET’s NOD32 is the first anti-malware product to achieve both the Anti-Spyware Desktop Checkmark certification for detecting spyware and the Anti-Spyware Installed Checkmark certification for nullifying spyware and is to be congratulated on its double award,” according to Chris Thomas, CTO West Coast Labs. “This means that users can be reassured that their machines now have two lines of defense from the one product.”
NOD32 v2.5 was one of the first products to earn the Checkmark “Anti-Spyware Desktop” certification for blocking earlier in 2005. The combined awards validate the superior technology and performance customers have come to expect from ESET’s products.
The spyware crisis has become a major threat to corporate computing environments. According to IDC analyst Brian Burke, 40% of IT helpdesk calls are related to spyware, and over 75% of corporate desktops are affected. IDC estimates spyware costs a company with 2,000 computers approximately $170,080 each year.
